General Information
History
The Arabic traders were probably the first to inhabit the Seychelles, but in 1502 it was the Portuguese who first claimed it. Around the 1700’s France claimed islands. It was then taken over by the British in 1814 that controlled them from Mauritius. Finally Seychelles claimed its independence on June 29, 1976.

Geography
The Seychelles Island’s occupy about 400,000 sq km of the Indian Ocean and is northeast of Madagascar, containing 115 islands and islets.
